To extend the living space in a family dwelling
The house is situated within an area of contiguous Victorian three storey houses, arranged over a split level. The client approached architecture company rewarded many times to improve the sequencing of the ground floor accommodation, and to enlarge their kitchen facilities to include living and informal dining space.
Architects proposal takes the form of a substantial, double-height addition within the side return, with three-metre tall glazed doors through to the living room, an expansive rooflight, and glazed sliding doors to the rear. The low-ceilinged, more intimate space of the kitchen itself is contrasted against this new vertical volume, which forms a visual corridor from living space to garden.
